How to View GoToWebinar® Recordings on a Mac

At Scribe, we have long been a Microsoft oriented company. As we have been on our journey with Scribe Online, creating a cloud-based integration platform, we see more opportunities to work with customers and partners that are not the typical “Microsoft shop” that we are accustomed to working with. As someone who has been using Mac OS X for the last couple of years, I take interest when we have requests to help people that are using Macs. We received a request for help recently week from someone what was not able to watch the recording of a webinar that we had hosted with GoToWebinar® and recorded on a Windows computer. Here are the steps I took to make view the recording on a Mac. When you go to view a recording hosted on GoToWebinar, the screen you see is a little different on a Mac. Evidently, GoToWebinar detects that you are running a Mac, so it gives you a note that you will need to install Windows Media Player for Mac. On the screen, you will see a link that you can follow to install it. Following the link brings you to Microsoft’s website where you can download Windows Media Components for Quicktime. This is not exactly what you might expect based on what the screen said in GoToMeeting®, but stick with it.         After clicking the Download button on the screen, the next screen shows two components you can download. I chose 3.2.0.16\Flip4Mac 3.2.0.16.dmg.       After downloading the disk image and opening it, install the Flip4Mac® Windows Media Installer.           After doing that, go back to the recorded webinar page in GoToMeeting and click View Recorded Webinar. This time it should work. Depending on your browser configuration, you might need to give Flip4Mac permission to run. Audio and video were synced properly and I was able to use the player controls to pause, play, and skip backward. One quirk of the player is that it jumps to the beginning of the video if you try to skip ahead to a time in the video where the content has not been downloaded to you yet. Please feel free to leave a comment about your experience or share a better way to make this work. On a side note, we offer a number of different types of webinar recordings, from technical deep dives and demonstrations to industry observations, such as our State of Customer Data Integration report.
